[Rumori] Firesign Theatre found objects

Hello detritons.

I'm working on a reissue project for Firesign Theatre. They did some lovely radio shows back in 1970-2 for KPFK in Los Angeles, full of goofball absurdity and found objects.

I'm designing a book of essays, interviews, and show indices for some of these great old airchecks. Since the shows were all about bringing found objects to the table, I want to use a lot of found art.

What are some good cheap sources for found paper materials in the Los Angeles area? Firesign's raw material came from all over the map - they're the ones who immortalized the Deputy Dan coloring book, after all - so I'm looking for literally anything: Taiwanese food packaging, old Russian newspapers, scrapbook photos, blueprints, flyers left on windshields, and on and on. Bizarre, unexpected, colorful, and striking are my watchwords. Vintage takes priority over recent. And cost is a factor - I love the Pasadena City College swap meet, but it's populated by antique dealers who too often sell this sort of junk at a premium.

Any leads? Anyone have paper materials cluttering up their archive that they want to dump?

I'm based in Burbank.

Best,
Taylor Jessen
